Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Getting Water
One of the most common problems with frost-free refrigerators and often with upright frost-free freezers is drain freeze up. This is usually caused by the defrost drain clogging, then freezing. On older units, it can also happen when the insulation usually open-cell Styrofoam around the drain gets ‘water-logged’, as it often does over the years, causing ice to build up inside the drain.
The first symptom, at least in top-freezers, is usually water under the crisper drawers, on the floor of the refrigerator section.

The ice maker was still making ice so I knew it was still receiving water. I spent several hours reading forums and testing various theories. I eventually determined that the water line inside the door was frozen. You see, the water line comes in from the wall to under the refrigerator and splits. One line goes up to the ice maker. Ultimately the insulation inside the door quits insulating the water line and it freezes near dispenser control panel.
So there you have it, your problem is likely a frozen water line. Now how do you fix it? Other users suggest temporary fixes such as threading a weed-eater trimmer line through the water line. When the line freezes simple pull the trimmer line and clean it out. Ultimately, I found a simple and inexpensive permanent solution. A couple years later and water line problem is still solved. The water heater in the line seemed to fix the issue and we never saw it again.
Granted, we had other issues with our GE refrigerator but the water line was never frozen again.

These refrigerators are interesting because they have no moving parts and use gas or propane as their primary energy source. Also, they use heat to produce the cold inside the refrigerator. A gas refrigerator uses ammonia as the coolant, and water, ammonia and hydrogen gas to create a continuous cycle for the ammonia.
The owners manual is so easy to use that this single mom and her teenage son were able to successfully hook up the water lines. And we are no plumbers/handymen so this was a solid win. of Reviews |.
It is on a slab so no easy way to run it under the floor. It is on the oposite wall and I dont feel like tearing up the ceiling. I plan to remodel the kitchen in a year or two so looking for a temporary solution. Have a water tank a few gallons ontop of the fridge. Just run the line from the tank to the water in connection. As needed just use a bucket or pitcher to fill up the water tank ontop.
I mainly want this for the ice so dont see filling it all of the time.

If the freezer temperature is above 10 degrees F. It functions best when the freezer temperature is set between 0 and five degrees F. If the freezer temp is too high make sure the condenser coil is clean and the condenser fan is working to cool the condenser and compressor. Check the evaporator coil for frost. If too much frost is built up the air can’t circulate thru the coil and you will need to check the defrost components for a failure.

Frigidaire, a company that has been manufacturing refrigerators since , makes a full line of refrigerators, some of which contain ice makers and/or water dispensers. These refrigerators depend on an outside water source to produce ice and chilled water, and low water pressure can have an.
House was built in and there was no ground wire in the romex. We installed GFI recept’s on the first outlet in each circuit and put the GFI protected No Equipment ground stickers on all the new receptacles we put in. The refrigerator is the last outlet on one of the living room recept circuits. Plugging in the refrigerator causes the GFI to trip immediately. Plugging it in to another circuit trips that circuit’s GFI immediately.
We connected drills, lamps, and a heat gun to both of these circuits and they all worked fine. My problem is convincing the HO that his refrigerator has a problem. I told him we could put GFI recepts in each outlet on the circuit with the fridge so it would not be GFI protected, but that it would not be safe as far as him or his renter not getting shocked.
He thinks I should do this for free since the fridge worked fine before the GFI’s went in. I’m thinking I’m not going to do it at all until we plug the fridge into a non-GFI protected outlet, wet his concrete floor, and he grabs the fridge while he’s barefoot. Just kidding about that part, but not about the not doing it part.

Freezers In-the-door ice and water dispensers have become common on refrigerators, especially in the bottom-freezer and side-by-side categories. In fact, depending on what size refrigerator you’re shopping for, you might have a hard time finding a model that doesn’t offer this feature. And it can be a nice convenience, especially if you entertain often or your household goes through a lot of water and ice.
But there are a few downsides to consider. With that, here are the pros and cons on in-the-door ice and water dispensers, based on Consumer Reports’ ongoing refrigerator tests. The Pros Added convenience. There’s nothing easier than pressing a lever and watching your glass fill with fresh ice whole or crushed, as you like it and chilled water.
That convenience can help you and your family stay hydrated throughout the day. Many manufacturers have made their dispensers even easier to use, for example, by making them taller so that you can fill pitchers and other oversize containers.
